Steven Gilbert possesses a Ph.D. in criminal justice, a Master’s Degree in forensic science, and a fellowship in forensic science. He is retired from the United States Army and federal law enforcement. He is also a retired Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. His doctoral research addressed false confessions. His dissertation was entitled, What Criminal Investigators Believe are the Causes of True and False Confessions.
