Kay Russell has been playing mah jongg since 1969 and  teaching it as a SOAR class since 2003. She plays with friends both in person and on line, following the National Mah Jongg league rules.

Kay is a retired Department of Social Services supervisor. She and her husband Edmund (Ed) Russell are avid travelers. They have traveled extensively in Europe since the 1990's.

At the Spring 2017 luncheon, Kay Russell and Brenda Francey both received the semester's Super SOARer Award. In the Fall of 2023, they received the Leon LeBeau SOARing  Educator Award.
