Caroline Downing earned her doctorate in Classical Archaeology from Indiana University, writing on Late Roman wall painting. She served as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Archaeology before joining the Art Department at SUNY Potsdam, where she has been teaching ancient art history and archaeology courses for 15 years.
