Print Info

Ginny and Al Schwartz are travelers. They love talking about their adventures.

Vicarious Voyagers XXI: Fall 2017 - "Hybrid Tours of Scandianavia." Highlights: seeing the midnight sun; sailing north of the Arctic Circle close to the border of Norway and Russia; mix of organized tour and free time.

Vicarious Voyagers XVII: Fall 2015 Copper Canyon, Mexico. Larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon. Bus travel, train travel, observing flora and fauna and the Tarahumara natives who live in this remote mountainous region of Mexico. Ginny (mostly retired) and Al (retired) have taught many years at SLU. They now live in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from January to May.

Vicarious Voyagers XV: Fall 2014: “Do It Yourself Alaska “ – Ginny and Al Schwartz (three weeks in Aug./Sept. on their own, following their to-do wish list of sites/activities, which included a flight around Denali National Park and onto(!) Mt. McKinley).

During the winter months, Ginny and Al Schwartz live at their beach residence near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (located in the Bay of Banderas on the Pacific coast of Mexico). And  year-round they indulge themselves in the study of the flora and fauna of different ecosystems.  The beach is eight miles long, and a popular location for endangered sea turtles (especially Olive Ridley turtles) to nest and lay their eggs. When in Mexico, Ginny works as a volunteer with AMA Mexico, a non-profit organization whose goal is to protect sea turtles. Her volunteer work with sea turtles, however, is a return to her undergrqadue work and life-long interest in Biology, nature study and photography.

Over the years, Ginny has worked at St. Lawrence University in a variety of roles, including counselor, administrator and instructor. Ginny's PhD is in American Culture Studies with a specialty in Film Studies. She continues to teach film studies courses as an adjunct at SLU. Her hobby is photography.

Al also worked at St. Lawrence University where he was a Professor of Environmental Studies. For several years he was also the Director of International Studies at SLU. He has been sailing since completing a bare boat certification course in 1994.
