Print Info

For 33 years the teaching duties of Professor Emeritus Jim Carl in the SUNY Potsdam Geology Department included mineralogy and geomorphology (the origin of landforms). Over the years, he took many of his students on field trips to various Adirondack mines.

Jim’s research interests and publications chiefly focused on the age of and origins of rocks in the NW section of the Adirondack Lowlands. His articles on the history of mining have appeared in recent issues of the Quarterly, the publication of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association.
