Karin Heckman studied Community/Medical Dietetics as an undergraduate before earning her PhD in Biomedical Sciences: Immunology at the Mayo Clinic. She teaches courses in Nutrition, Immunology, Cancer Biology, and Public Health in the Biology Department at SLU.
Karin is a registered dietitian and immunologist. She is interested in how the immune system can be manipulated to treat autoimmune disease and cancer, and she conducts studies examining how synthetic antioxidants can be used therapeutically in the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis.
