This talk focuses on practical strategies for minimizing your risk of developing type II diabetes. Topics discussed will include simple vs. complex sugars, the glycemic index, and general approaches to healthy eating and exercise.
Karin Heckman is a registered dietitian and immunologist who teaches in the Biology Department at SLU. She is interested in how the immune system can be manipulated to treat autoimmune disease and cancer. Currently Karin is conducting studies examining how synthetic antioxidants can be used therapeutically in the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis.
