This class will provide participants with an overview of the fossil record of life on Earth. Participants will learn how to identify common invertebrate fossils and learn about the major evolutionary milestones in the last 4.5 billion years.

Michael Rygel is an assistant professor in the geology department at SUNY Potsdam. He teaches introductory geology courses, as well as upper level courses in Earth History, Sedimentary Geology, Field Geology, and Geographic Information Systems. His research focuses on coal-bearing rocks in the eastern North America.
