At the SOAR 25th Anniversary luncheon held on May 13, 2026, in Knowles Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus, Doug Rose, Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee, presented this year’s SuperSOARer Award to David Mathie, whose devotion to SOAR has been truly exemplary.
Among his many roles in SOAR, seemingly in two places at once, David has been Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, filling in for the Chair whenever necessary. He is a team player with the Board members, communicating with each as the need arises in various situations. Lots of phone calls, lots of back and forth emails!
David is Chair of the Curriculum Committee, providing essential supervision of a team of committee members who search for new presenters before each semester begins. He then contacts each presenter, establishing relationships with them throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. More phone calls and lots of back and forth emails!
As also head of the Scheduling Committee, David diligently spends many hours each term locating venues for the presenters’ courses. He has become most proficient in dealing with last minute changes when chosen venues suddenly became unavailable. Still more phone calls, and back and forth emails!
David’s exceptional computer expertise has been a key advantage in training SOAR personnel, assisting presenters with their courses and teaching classes to SOAR members.
Doug concluded his presentation by saying, “David is a dedicated colleague of the SOAR program who performs his duties with grace, commitment, and professionalism. Congratulations to SOAR’s 2025-26 SuperSOARer, David Mathie.”
