While opioids remain a frontline treatment for pain, their addiction potential remains a considerable liability to their clinical use. Last year alone there were 60,000 deaths due to fatal opioid-induced respiratory depression. In this course, participants will learn how opioids interact with nervous system to relieve pain, inhibit normal breathing, and stimulate reward pathways associated with opioid use disorder.
