This course is an introduction to women in politics around the globe, with particular emphasis on whether, and how, women advocate for other women while in office. We will look at examples of women currently in exec- utive office (such as Theresa May, prime minister of the UK, and Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany), and legislative office (such as our own congresswoman, Elise Stefanik).
Christina Xydias is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Clarkson University. Her research focuses on gender and politics, specifically in Europe. She has interviewed more than 70 political office-holders at the state and national level in Germany and in Greece over the last 10 years.
