This PowerPoint presentation supports a discussion on how to effectively grieve your property assessment. You will learn what to do and what not to do if you choose to grieve. After a brief review of the 2008 Potsdam property revaluation, we will look at critical information and dates on regulations affecting the property grievance procedure that most taxpayers are unaware of. The goal of the course is to assist you if you decide to grieve your assessment in the future.

Since 2008 Bruce Konkoski has actively been involved with the history and statistics of property taxes in the Town of Potsdam and St. Lawrence County. His presentation to the St. Lawrence County Legislature resulted in a request by them to the State to review the computer program used in assessment impact statements sent to property owners. His complaint to the New York State Attorney General’s Office on Public Ethics resulted in the recovery of County computer records that he was assured were “lost forever.” Bruce is the founder and past president of the Town of Potsdam Taxpayers Association (TOPTA).

NOTE: Note-taking and future action are both encouraged.
