This course focuses on the years that Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield, Illinois. It includes discussions of his experiences in the state legislature and the U. S. Congress, his marriage to Mary Todd and their family life, his years practicing law in Illinois, the Lincoln-Douglas debates, and finally the 1850 nomination of Lincoln as the Republican candidate for President of the U. S.
Terry Niles was a history/government major at SLU. He is on the Board of Directors for the St. Lawrence County Historical Society. He is also an active member of the Civil War Round Table.
