This course will introduce acrylic paints and acrylic painting techniques to beginners. Students will learn about color, value and composition while creating different projects with acrylic paints in a relaxing and supportive atmosphere that is characteristic of Casie’s instruction.

Casie Galletti is a Junior at SUNY Potsdam, preparing for a future as a math and art teacher. She has taught Art for Beginners (focusing on watercolor painting) for the past two SOAR semesters. Upon request of her SOAR students, Casie is kindly returning to teach us about acrylic painting.

NOTES: 1) No class Oct.11.

SUPPLIES:

A tube of acrylic paint from a brand that is close to Basics, Artist Loft, or System 3 (About 4.06 fl. oz tube, please do not buy those small bottles of paint that cost between 1-2 dollars those will not work):

1 white
1 black
1 process magenta
1 process yellow
1 process cyan

A painting smock or apron to avoid dirtying clothes with paint

Paper towels or an old cloth to clean brushes with

A cup to hold water in

A couple of sketching pencils and erasers

Acrylic paint brushes (about 5-6)

At least one large flat brush

At least one smaller round detail brush

At least 3 in between sixes and a variety of flat and round brushes

Acrylic or mixed media sketchbook (at least 9x12 in)

Pallet paper or a pallet to mix paint on

Extra** If you would like you can purchase canvas to paint on, or you may wait until the class begins to purchase it.
