In this presentation, we will explore why people enter the U.S. without legal documents by taking a closer look at the current U.S. immigration system. How do people legally immigrate to the U.S.? Do undocumented immigrants really “cut in line”? Who are “Dreamers” and what exactly is DACA? In short, this presentation aims to provide a better understanding of both documented and undocumented migration to the U.S.
Claudia Hoffmann is an immigrant from Germany and currently works as an Assistant Professor of film at Clarkson University. In her research, she specializes in the representation of undocumented migration in film, media, and art. She has taught courses on, among other things, African cinema and literature, world cinema, cinemas of resistance, and postcolonial film and literature.
