This class provides participants with an overview of the techniques that scientists use to learn about Earth’s climate history. Specific topics include: the chemistry of climate change, evidence from the geologic record, astronomic and plate tectonic forcing, and an overview of some of the most extreme climate events in Earth’s history.
Michael Rygel is an assistant professor in the Geology Department at SUNY Potsdam. He teaches introductory geology courses, as well as the upper level courses: Earth History, Sedimentary Geology, Field Geology, and Geographic Information Systems. His research focuses on coal-bearing rocks in the eastern North America.
