Graveyards, coffins and burial customs make up some parts of funeral traditions. Just as every culture has found ways of living life in a different way, each has also found different and sometimes seemingly odd customs surrounding death and dying. Learn about various funeral and burial customs practiced throughout history and across cultures. The origins of current funeral traditions and superstitions will also be discussed.

Leah Rohlfsen is an assistant professor in the sociology department at SLU. She teaches introductory sociology and upper level research methods courses, as well as courses on sports in society, health, aging, and death and dying.
