Though this is a very serious subject, the course itself is fast paced, highly interactive, energizing, and is presented with levity. You will walk away able to differentiate between litigation and mediation, and you will have learned the vernacular of legalese and been introduced to an arsenal of advanced communication skills. These skills, if practiced consistently, will assist you (and help you help others) in resolving commonplace conflicts involving community issues, families, bratty kids, vitriolic feuding neighbors, troublesome tenants, stalkers, and – yes – even belligerent spouses.
Diana Dufresne is a marriage and family counselor. She is the Associate Director of the Rural Law Center, and the Regional Director of Conflict Resolution Services. She provides Unified Court System-sponsored mediation services for Family Court, City Court, and many local town and village courts in several counties. She has successfully resolved over 6000 mediation and arbitration cases over the past twenty years, including many at the state and federal level. Her areas of adjudicative activity include: “Lemon Law” cases, fee disputes, custody/visitation agreements, end of life cases, small claims, divorce mediation, real property, commercial disputes, landlord/tenant problems, and many others.
