This course explores the unusual creatures that inhabit our oceans, with a focus on the deep sea. We will also discuss the many challenges of living in a cold, dark, high-pressure environment with little food.
Walter Conley earned his B.S. in Fisheries from the University of Massachusetts (UMass - Amherst), an M.S. in Marine Biology from UMass - Dartmouth, and his Ph.D. in Marine Science from the University of South Florida. He has worked as a research scientist and professor in multiple states, including almost two years on ships, primarily in the Gulf of Mexico. His research includes protected species (sea turtles and manatees) and plankton trophodynamics, including deep sea anchovies.
