Drugs: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly [F-26-15]

The development of new medicines is fascinating and multifaceted, whether you are primarily interested in chemistry, biology, healthcare, or societal impact. In this course, we will cover different aspects of the pharmaceuticals process, from finding a potential new medicine, through clinical trials, FDA approval, and beyond. Using hands-on examples and case studies, the course will look at how tiny molecules can impact our health, for better or for worse, in profound ways.

Samuel Tartakoff is a professor at St. Lawrence University and received his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of California - Irvine. He teaches general and organic chemistry, as well as conducting research into new chemical reactions and potential new medicines. Other presenters include chemistry, biochemistry, and biology students from St. Lawrence University, who will be leading portions of the discussion.
