Be the Bridge: Vital Skills Until Help Arrives [F-26-10]

When an emergency happens, the first few minutes are the most critical. This introductory session is designed to empower you with the confidence and practical skills needed to act effectively before professional responders arrive. We will cover how to recognize medical emergencies, learn "hands-only" CPR techniques, and the immediate steps to take for various common crises. This is a non-certification course focused on providing clear, life-saving knowledge for anyone who wants to be better prepared to help their neighbors, friends, or family.

R.J. Thayer is the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Student Affairs Division at SUNY Canton, where he founded the campus's student-run EMS squad and the Outdoors for All initiative. He holds a Master's in Emergency Management, a Bachelor's in Environmental Studies, and an Associate's in Education. In the community, R.J. serves as a Fire Commissioner and IT Administrator for the Colton Fire District and is a volunteer EMT, Fire Police, and Interior Firefighter with the Colton Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking and geocaching throughout the North Country with his wife, daughter, and their two dogs.
