Phil Neisser is a coauthor (with Jacob Hess) of You’re Not as Crazy as I Thought, But You’re Still Wrong. (Potomac Books, 2012). Whereas Jacob is a deeply religious political conservative, Phil is a leftist and an atheist, and their book is a record of (and a reflection on) their two-year, intense conversation about their differences. In this presentation, Phil will explain what made the conversation highly worthwhile and how it offers a model by which society might address the problem of political polarization, despite the fact that he and Jacob are as far apart as ever, when it comes to their political views.
Phil Neisser is the Chair of the Department of Politics and the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Potsdam, as well as the author of United We Fall: Ending America’s Love Affair with the Political Center (Praeger, 2008).
