One, two, three, …, Infinity! We have grown quite accustomed to the idea of very big numbers in everyday life (e.g., our national debt), to the point that infinity has ceased to impress us. In this course we will spend some time re-exploring infinity and gaining new respect for its vertiginous extent. We will also learn how infinity can nevertheless be tamed, and we will be introduced to unimaginably larger infinities – way larger than the infinity of natural numbers.
Daniel ben-Avraham has been conducting research and teaching Physics at Clarkson University, since 1987.
NOTES: 1) No mathematical background required, beyond grade school arithmetic; 2) Bring an open and curious mind.
